Description:
The TIP122 is a Darlington Transistor that has a very high gain of up to 1000. The Darlington pair transistor actually contains two transistors in which emitter of one transistor is connected to the base of the other transistor which means there is approximately doubling of Base to Emitter voltage of the Darlington Pair Transistor. It also has high voltage withstand capabilities.
These transistors are used in an application where high amplification is required. They are commonly used in Power Audio Amplifiers and can be easily controlled by 5V Microcontrollers like Arduino, PIC, AVR, etc. because of their low base threshold voltage.
